Millet Payasam Recipe

Millet Payasam, is a deliciously good twist on everyone’s favourite Payasam. Instead of rice, the recipe uses millets, with milk, MILKMAID and nuts, creating a creamy and comforting treat.

Ingredients for Millet Payasam

  • 1/2 tin Nestlé MILKMAID
  • 2 tbsp (20 g) Ghee
  • 1/2 cup (100 gms) Proso Millet/Panivaragu [or any other type of millet]
  • 1.5 cups (375 ml) Water
  • 4 cups (1000ml) Milk
  • 8-10 Cashews
  • 8-10 Raisins

How to make Millet Payasam

  • Step 1: In a pan, add 1 tbsp of ghee, soaked millet (soaked for 15 mins), and sauté on medium heat for 2 mins.
  • Step 2: Then, add water and give it a good stir. Cover and cook on low to medium heat for 10 mins. 
  • Step 3: Add milk and Nestlé MILKMAID and give it a good stir. Allow the mixture to boil. 
  • Step 4: Simmer and let it cook for a few minutes till it thickens. 
  • Step 5: Meanwhile, add 1 tbsp ghee in another pan. Roast the cashews and raisins in it. 
  • Step 6: Add the roasted nuts to the prepared Payasam. Serve hot & enjoy!
