  • Step 9: Serve the Unniyappams or Unni Appams warm and enjoy their delicious and rich flavour.

Tips to Make Unniyappam

  • For authentic flavour, use ripe bananas. They'll sweeten and moisten the batter for tastier Unniyappam.
  • Get smooth Unniyappam by using fine rice flour. This prevents any unwanted grittiness.
  • Allow the batter to rest for at least 2 hours, as suggested in the Unniyappam recipe, to let the flavours meld and ensure the Unni Appam turns out soft and fluffy.
  • Cook gently over medium heat to ensure even cooking without burning.
  • For a lighter and fluffier Unniyappam, add a pinch of baking soda.
  • Add cardamom powder to enhance the aroma and taste of Unniyappam.
  • Make sure to fry in ghee for extra richness and a unique flavour. Oil can also be used, but ghee elevates the dish.
  • Keep frying temperature consistent to avoid burning and a raw center.
  • Add grated coconut for a delightful textural contrast.
  • Serve warm for the best experience. Unniyappam can harden when it cools down.
