FAQs on Phirni

1. What is the best type of rice to use for making Phirni?

To achieve the classic Phirni aroma, it is recommended to opt for fragrant basmati rice. Nevertheless, you can also use any other aromatic, non-sticky rice variety as a substitute. Regular white rice can be used, although it may lack the distinctive floral notes characteristic of basmati rice.

2. Is Phirni the same as Kheer?

No, Phirni and Kheer are different desserts. Although both are rice-based, Phirni is a creamy rice pudding made with ground rice and milk, infused with the aromatic essence of cardamom. On the other hand, Kheer is a rice pudding prepared by cooking whole rice grains in sweetened milk.

3. Is phirni served hot or cold?

Phirni is different from Kheer because it's served cold, while Kheer is usually enjoyed warm. The chilled Phirni has a creamy texture and refreshing flavours.

4. For how long can I store phirni?

You can easily store Phirni in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days. You can store it in the freezer for around a week.
